Objective:

MainFrameIT has several ways in which machines (PCs/NUCs) are built which we refer to as the 'Build Type'. The Build Type can be seen in the lower right of your desktop.

This article explains functionality for builds with Hybrid in their name such as HybridCLOUD and FullHybridCLOUD.

Overview:

For the most part Hybrid builds mean everything works as it always has, but, behind the scenes all of the normal places you're used to saving data to in are in fact redirected to OneDrive instead. As this is transparent to end-users, you can continue to save documents to the same locations you always have.

A Deeper Look:

Also note all of the normal Windows folders shown here...

...also appear inside of OneDrive!

In summary, every time you're saving to one of these folders below, our Hybrid build transparently redirects the save to into the matching folder in your OneDrive folders above.

This means documents on your PC's are continuously backed up!

Solving the Drive Space Problem:

For most users Hybrid build PCs will never run out of drive space.

OneDrive 'Files on Demand' allows users to see and access 100% of their data when connected to the internet, while allowing users to decide which folders and documents should be available when disconnected from the internet (offline) as well.

This allows a user with 128GB hard drive (C: Drive) to see all 750GB of their data without having to be hassled by constantly running out of drive space!

By default, MainFrameIT sets all folders and files to "Available when online" as shown above. When inside of OneDrive, you can control the behavior of files/folders by right-clicking on them and choosing from the options shown here:

Best Practices:

o   NEVER save documents or add folders to the root of your OneDrive folder!

o   NEVER rename folders in the root of your OneDrive

o   Some users/clients may see additional folders as well.

o   NEVER choose "Always keep on this device" for top level folders, and especially for folders in the root of your OneDrive such as those shown above.

o   And perhaps most importantly, always be mindful should you see warning messages coming from your OneDrive icon in the lower right as continuous backup can only work when OneDrive is healthy:
